What really happens to your digital data when you hit delete? According to the premise of The Leak, everything we trash with confidence actually ends up in a massive “digital deletion facility.”
Employees of this facility have the boring, repetitive task of sorting endless files into bins, forbidden from looking at, listening to or watching any of the content.
But every workplace has a scofflaw.
Meet Duane — a deleted data handler who not only opens deleted files, he curates his favorites into an entertaining and highly illegal podcast called The Leak.
In every 15-minute episode of The Leak Duane shares more awesome finds, ranging from situations-gone-bad to surreptitiously recorded conversations to less-than-stellar creative performances and voice memo ramblings. He opens each episode by reading that week’s most absurd text files.
All are essentially comedy sketches positioned as “found” audio and video recordings.
The Leak fills a void in the kids media landscape for short-form sketch comedy. It has the irreverent, patchwork feel of Mad Magazine, but the backstory places it firmly in sci-fi territory even as the sketches are the stuff of every day life.
Some sketches are situational, and some are character-based. Some are about kids, and some are about adults. And there’s a range of slapstick, wordplay and absurdity to appeal to different sensibilities across the 9 to 12 demographic.
For kids who have outgrown the knock-knock jokes but might not be old enough for SNL, The Leak is here to serve their evolving comic sophistication.
