ONE MAN BAND.
ONE NIGHT AT THE RICKSHAW STOP.
May 24.
Ricky Lee Robinson is the Bay area’s foremost neo retro one-man band. No loops, no laptops, and no sidemen, Robinson cranks out 70’s flavored glam pop using only a custom-built setup that includes a foot-controlled three-piece drum kit and a guitar rigged with a 'polyphonic octaver' that covers both guitar and bass lines. His rollicking, ambidextrous sets include material from the 2005 release “Mushu Pork” (which enjoyed airplay on over 120 radio stations and spawned the Top 10 College Radio single “Jeans On”), and new material from Robinson’s forthcoming “Secret Love Tricks.” Besides his raw, poppy originals, Robinson is also known for his love of obscure 60s and 70s pop covers — a specialty that earned him a feature story in an upcoming issue of San Francisco Magazine.
Robinson’s appearance at the Rickshaw Stop is part of a Northwest jaunt that includes shows on May 30 at Cozmic Pizza in Eugene, June 1st at the Jewel Box Theatre in Seattle (part of the Stiff 2007 Film Festival), and June 3 at the Ash Street Saloon in Portland. West Coast dates later this summer include a performance at the International Pop Overthrow in Los Angeles in August.
Ricky Lee Robinson is available for interviews.
